Searching for 'Discover Cars' (with space) would match millions of generic pages about discovering cars, rental cars, holiday cars, etc. By using the concatenated form 'DiscoverCars' we match only intentional brand references.
We track 35 car rental comparison platforms across 101 domain variants including country-specific TLDs (e.g. autoeurope.com, autoeurope.de, autoeurope.fr). This ensures comprehensive coverage across markets.
All mentions were screened for negative sentiment using keyword analysis. Out of 4,638 total mentions, 43 titles were flagged for manual review. After review, zero confirmed negative mentions about tracked companies were found — all flagged items were either about other companies or general industry advice articles.
Media mentions reflect how visible a car rental comparison platform is in the news and media landscape. A higher number of mentions typically indicates stronger brand recognition, more PR activity, and greater industry relevance.
This metric complements traffic data by showing brand presence beyond the company's own website. While traffic measures direct visitor interest, media mentions capture third-party recognition and editorial coverage.
Data is sourced from Ahrefs Content Explorer as of March 2026. The search covers the full historical index with news content filter applied.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are media mentions counted?
Each unique URL mentioning a company counts as one mention. We deduplicate across domain and brand searches so the same page is never counted twice.
Why do some companies have more brand mentions than domain mentions?
Companies like QEEQ or Auto Europe are often referenced by brand name in articles without linking to their domain. Domain search catches linked references, while brand search catches text-only mentions.
How often is this data updated?
Currently based on a comprehensive Ahrefs Content Explorer export from March 2026. We plan to establish a regular update cadence.
What counts as 'news' content?
Ahrefs classifies content as news based on page structure, publication patterns, and site characteristics. This includes traditional news sites, travel blogs, industry publications, and press releases.
