How We Calculate the Reliability Index

Methodology

Score Mix

Weights stay stable across updates.

Signals

Balanced to reflect trust, demand, and reach.

Why It Matters

A single score makes comparison fast, but the underlying signals keep it fair and explainable.
RI
Stable weights, refreshed data.
20%Customer Trust

Review signal blends Trustpilot, Google Reviews, Reviews.io, and Review Centre.

20%Market Popularity

SimilarWeb traffic shows real demand and brand awareness.

20%Inventory Depth

Supplier count indicates coverage, availability, and choice.

20%Global Reach

Language support reflects accessibility for international travelers.

20%Media Mentions

Coverage across news outlets, blogs, and industry publications

Formula details

RI = 100 * (0.20 * T + 0.20 * R + 0.20 * S + 0.20 * L + 0.20 * M)

T is normalized traffic (company traffic divided by the maximum traffic in the current dataset). R is normalized rating using min-max scaling: (rating − lowest rating) / (highest rating − lowest rating), so the worst-rated company scores 0 and the best scores 1.

S is normalized suppliers (average suppliers per location divided by the maximum supplier value). L is normalized language support (languages divided by the maximum language count). M is normalized media mentions (total mentions divided by the maximum mentions in the dataset).

When supplier data is not available (n/a), S is set to 0, while the rest of the index is still calculated normally.

The Reliability Index blends multi-source reviews, traffic, supplier coverage, and language support to create a single ranking.

We keep weights stable so changes reflect performance shifts rather than rule changes.

Data is refreshed on a regular cadence to keep the rankings current and comparable.

Scope Of The Ranking

Included vs Not Included

We rank stand-alone car rental OTAs and broker platforms only.

These platforms focus on car rentals as their primary product and provide comparison, booking, and support across multiple suppliers.

This creates the most useful apples-to-apples view for travelers choosing where to book.

Included
Stand-alone car rental OTAs
Brokers / comparison sites

Not Included

Direct suppliers (Sixt, Hertz, Avis, etc.)
Meta-search (Kayak, Skyscanner, etc.)
Multi-product OTAs (Booking.com, etc.)

Why not direct suppliers?

Direct rental brands use a different model and cannot be compared fairly to brokers.

Why not meta-search?

Meta-search lists prices but often lacks a unified booking experience.

Why not multi-product OTAs?

Car rental is not the core product, which distorts focus and ranking signals.

About the ranking
